Latar belakang dan tujuan: Lembaga Pengembangan Kemandirian Masyarakat Irian Jaya disingkat GENERASI, didirikan pada 30 September 1996 oleh para staf Project Concern International (PCI) Papua yang waktu itu melaksanakan proyek Child Survival IX (CS IX) di kabupaten Paniai. Para staf PCI waktu itu mengamati, bahwa kondisi kesehatan masyarakat di propinsi Papua memerlukan pendekatan lain dari yang telah diprogramkan Child Survival Project. Kondisi ini didukung oleh pihak penyandang dana yang sangat menaruh perhatian pada perkembangan dan kemajuan masyarakat Irian Jaya. Tujuan lembaga ini adalah mewujudkan suatu masyarakat yang mandiri dan berusaha melestarikan peranserta masyarakat dalam aktivitas pembangunan nasional secara menyeluruh dan membantu pemerintah dalam meningkatkan peran aktif masyarakat dalam bidang pembangunan masyarakat. Bidang dan bentuk kegiatan: Bidang-bidang kegiatan utama lembaga ini adalah pertanian dan peternakan, kesehatan, air bersih dan sanitasi, wanita, usaha kecil dan perkoperasian, anak, kependudukan dan KB, serta gender. Sedangkan bentuk-bentuk kegiatannya adalah penelitian/studi/survai, pendidikan dan pelatihan, pengembangan/pendampingan masyarakat, penerbitan dan publikasi, serta seminar, diskusi dan lokakarya. Program: Program kegiatan yang sempat tercatat antara lain pelatihan sebaya HIV/AIDS dan penyakit menular seksual untuk pelajar SLTA, Remaja Masjid, Pemuda Gereja se kota Nabire, serta program penguatan kelembagaan. Publikasi: Bulletin NOKEN Sumber dana: Selain dari iuran dan sumbangan anggota, juga bantuan subsidi pemerintah (Kanwil Depkes Propinsi Irian Jaya), dan bantuan hibah (grant) dari lembaga internasional. Project Concern International (PCI) dan lain-lain. Keanggotaan dan wilayah kerja: Lembaga ini belum bergabung pada organisasi manapun. Wilayah kerjanya meliputi seluruh propinsi Irian Jaya, terutama Kabupaten Paniai, Nabire, Puncak Jaya, dan Yapen-Waropen. Staf: Lembaga ini memiliki 17 orang staf; 9 orang di antaranya staf tetap dan 8 orang staf tidak tetap. Dari fungsinya, 12 orang tergolong staf profesional dan 5 orang staf administrasi. | |
Background and purpose: This foundation was set up on September 30, 1996 by the staffs of the Papuan Project Concern International which at that time was in the middle of the Child Survival IX project in Paniai district. The staffs of the project noticed that the health condition of the community in the province of Papua needs different approaches to those that have been programmed in Child Survival Project. This situation is fully supported by the funding agencies who pay attention to the development of the Irian Jaya people. Based on that background, the purpose of this foundation is to create a self-sufficient community and to try to continue the participation of community in the activities of national development entirely and to help the government in the efforts to increase the active role of the community in community development.
Area and form of activities: This foundation works in various fields and forms of activities, such as, agriculture and breeding cattle, health, clean water and sanitation, women in development, small business and cooperative, childcare, population and family planning and gender issue. The forms of those activities are researches (studies and surveys), education and training, community development and assistance, publications, seminar, discussion as well as workshop.
Program: Since its establishment this foundation has done many programs. The program are peer training of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases for the high school students, youths of mosque, youths of churches of the entire Nabire, and program of institutional empowerment.
Funding sources: This foundation has 3 main sources of fund, that is, membership fee and donation from the members, government subsidies, grants from international institutions. The institutions who have cooperated are the Office of Health Department of the Irian Jaya province, Project Concern International (PCI) and so on.
Membership and working area: This foundation has yet linked with any organization whatsoever. This foundation covers the whole areas in Papua province mainly in Paniai, Nabire, Puncak Jaya and Yapen-Waropen districts.
Staf: In managing their activities this foundation has 17 staffs. Among them there are 9 full-time staffs and 8 part-time. As many as 12 staffs are professionals and 5 who are in charge of the administration.
