Latar belakang dan tujuan: Lembaga ini awalnya bernama Lembaga Pengkajian Pekerja Indonesia dan bergerak di bidang perburuhan. Akan tetapi karena dalam perjalanannya, banyak kegiatan lembaga ini lebih mengarah pada kegiatan-kegiatan advokasi lingkungan dan demokratisasi masyarakat desa, maka pada akhirnya melalui mekanisme rapat para pendiri dan pengurus lembaga, berganti nama menjadi Lembaga Pemberdayaan Pedesaan Indonesia, disingkat LPPI. Adapun tujuan lembaga ini adalah memberdayakan masyarakat pedesaan dalam meningkatkan sumber daya manusia dan ekonomi yang berbasis kemasyarakatan serta membuat jaringan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat baik di tingkat nasional maupun internasional. Program: Program-program yang pernah dilakukan di antaranya pembudidayaan lebah madu, penghijauan, penyaluran sembako serta penelitian untuk memetakan dan mengatasi krisis. Sumber dana: Dana kegiatan diperoleh dari iuran dan sumbangan anggota, bantuan dari pemerintah serta hasil proyek dengan berbagai pihak; juga pernah melakukan kerjasama dengan JICA-Jepang untuk penyaluran sembako. Keanggotaan dan wilayah kerja: Lembaga ini tercatat sebagai salah satu anggota Forum Informasi dan Komunikasi (FIK) LSM Sulawesi Selatan. Staf: Lembaga ini memiliki 4 staf tetap, 2 staf tidak tetap, seorang staf profesional dan seorang staf administrasi. |
Background and purpose: Initially, the institute was called Lembaga Pengkajian Pekerja Indonesia (Institute of Indonesian Workers Studies). But after its activities were more directed to environment advocacy and democratization in the rural community, its name was changed into LPPI in a meeting of its founders and executive board members. The purposes of LPPI are empower the rural community by increasing the quality of its human resources and economic resources which are community-based; and create networks for empowering the community at national and international level.
Area and form of activities: LPPI’s fields of activity are agriculture, clean water and sanitation, women in development, gender, small enterprises and cooperatives, environment, human rights, democracy, informal sector, community forest, cattle breeding and children. The main activities in these fields take the forms of study, research, education and training, community development and facilitation, advocacy and seminar or discussion.
Program: The programs carried out by LPPI included honey bee cultivation, reforestation, distribution of staple commodities, and research for the mapping of population hit by crisis and for crisis solution.
Funding sources: The funds for LPPI’s activities come from the dues and contributions from its members, government assistance and the remuneration of projects it implements together with other parties. LPPI also cooperated with JICA-Japan to distribute staple commodities.
Membership and working area: The institute is a member of the Information and Communication Forum of South Sulawesi NGOs.
Staff: Presently, LPPI has 4 full-time and 2 part-time staff members, including one professional and one administration workers.
