Latar belakang dan tujuan: Latar belakang berdirinya Yayasan Manikay Kauci (YMK), ini adalah karena seringnya terjadi pelanggaran hak asasi manusia dalam pengelolaan lingkungan. Sedangkan tujuan lembaga yang berdiri sejak 13 April 1992 ini adalah menciptakan dan menumbuhkembangkan kesadaran serta upaya pelestarian alam dan lingkungan, meningkatkan kesejahteraan sosial, serta menegakkan hak asasi manusia.
Bidang dan bentuk kegiatan: Satu-satunya bidang kegiatan utama lembaga adalah lingkungan hidup. Sedangkan kegiatan-kegiatan penunjang adalah pertanian, kesehatan, air bersih dan sanitasi, wanita dalam pembangunan, gender, usaha kecil dan perkoperasian, hukum, hak asasi manusia, demokrasi, sektor informal, pembangunan perkotaan, hutan kemasyarakatan, buruh, anak, kelautan dan perikanan serta pariwisata. Kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut dilaksanakan melalui berbagai bentuk kegiatan: pengembangan dan pendampingan masyarakat, termasuk advokasi, sementara studi, penelitian, survai, pendidikan dan pelatihan, penerbitan dan publikasi serta seminar sampai lokakarya merupakan bentuk kegiatan penunjangnya.
Program: Beberapa program telah dilakukan lembaga ini, antara lain: menjalankan kegiatan reformasi dan diseminasi peraturan hukum untuk penanggulangan HIV/AIDS, penelitian konservasi penyu, penelitian pelacuran anak, baseline Kawasan Terpadu Taman Nasional Bali Barat, melakukan replantasi lahan kritis dan pembinaan kelompok peternakan.
Publikasi: Menerbitkan secara teratur newsletter Wacana.
Sumber dana: Sumber-sumber dana lembaga ini berasal dari sumbangan anggota, bantuan hibah dari lembaga-lembaga internasional seperti AusAid, WWF, OXFAM, UNDP, SAMIN, IRRI-Pact, dan bantuan badan-badan dalam negeri non pemerintah seperti Bina Desa.
Keanggotaan dan wilayah kerja: Lembaga ini tergabung dalam WALHI, Forda Usaha Kecil, Konsorsium Pembaruan Agraria. Wilayah kerjanya Propinsi Bali.
Staf: Lembaga ini memiliki 14 orang staf, 11 di antaranya adalah staf tetap dan sisanya staf tidak tetap.
| Background and purpose: The establishment of Yayasan Manikaya Kauci (YMK) was a response to the many human rights violations in the cultivation of the environment. Meanwhile, the purpose of the foundation, laid on 13 April 1992, is create and develop people’s awareness about the importance of nature and environment preservation and take measures for it, improve social welfare, and uphold human rights. Area and form of activities: Environment is the only field of activity of Yayasan Manikaya Kauci. Meanwhile, its supporting fields are agriculture, health care, clean water and sanitation, women in development, gender, small enterprises and cooperatives, law, human rights, democracy, informal sector, urban development, community forest, laborers, children, marine development and fishery, and tourism. Activities in the main field take the forms of community development and facilitation, and advocacy. Meanwhile, education and training, publication, seminar and workshop are the forms of activities in the supporting fields. Program: YMK has implemented quite many programs. Among them were the reforming and dissemination of laws and regulations in order to curb HIV/AIDS, research on turtle conservation, research on child prostitutes, the development of a baseline in the Integrated Zone of West Bali’s National Park, the replanting of critical land, and the development of cattle breeding groups. Publication: The foundation periodically publishes Wacana newsletter. Funding sources: YMK’s sources of fund are donations from its members, grants from international funding agencies like AusAID, WWF, OXFAM, UNDP, SAMIN, IRRI-Pact, and assistant funds from domestic non-government organizations like Bina Desa. Membership and working area: The foundation is associated with WALHI, Regional Forum of Small Enterprises, and Consortium for Agrarian Reforms. The province of Bali is its area of operation. Staff: YMK presently has 14 staff members, who are comprised of 11 full-time and 3 part-time workers. |
