Latar belakang dan tujuan: Lembaga yang berdiri pada 16 Desember 1983 ini awalnya didirikan oleh beberapa orang wartawan ekonomi yang meliput kegiatan kepresidenan pada awal 1970-an. Lembaga yang bergerak di bidang informasi dan studi pembangunan ini berdiri atas dasar pemikiran dan keinginan untuk secara bersama-sama mewujudkan tujuan pembanguan nasional, yaitu masyarakat adil dan makmur sesuai cita-cita proklamasi. Tujuannya selain mengisi kemerdekaan, juga memberdayakan masyarakat di bidang ekonomi, termasuk pemerataan hasil-hasil pembangunan serta menggalang dan membina kerja sama antara sesama anggota masyarakat.
Bidang dan bentuk kegiatan: Bidang kegiatan utama lembaga ini adalah pertanian, usaha kecil, sektor informal, pembangunan perkotaan, peternakan, anak, pendidikan, pengkajian pembangunan, dan komunikasi pembangunan. Selain itu lembaga ini juga menggeluti bidang kelautan dan perikanan, sekretariat dan keuangan, Indonesia Raya: kajian cybernetic sebagai penunjangnya. Sedangkan bentuk-bentuk kegiatannya meliputi pendidikan dan pelatihan, penerbitan, seminar, studi, penelitian, survai, pengembangan dan pendampingan masyarakat, dan perkreditan.
Program: Sejak berdirinya lembaga ini telah melakukan berbagai program, di antaranya: program keberdayaan masyarakat seperti peningkatan pendapatan petani ikan lele, pengembangan masyarakat sektor informal di perkotaan seperti pendidikan dan pelatihan manajemen usaha tani terpadu, dan lain-lain.
Sumber dana: Lembaga internasional dan lembaga dalam negeri banyak membantu program-program lembaga ini, tersebut di antaranya UNDP, Arthur Anderson, Forum BUMN dan G11 Plus.
Keanggotaan dan wilayah kerja: Lembaga ini masuk dalam Konsorsium Pemulihan Keberdayaan Masyarakat, Jaringan Kerja Pemberdayaan Masyarakat dan Forum Pengembangan Masyarakat. Wilayah kerjanya selain DKI Jakarta, juga Sukabumi, Pati dan Boyolali, Sumenep, Sikka (NTT).
Staf: Lembaga ini memiliki 66 staf tetap, ratusan staf tidak tetap di lapangan, 14 staf profesional, dan 10 staf administrasi.

Background and purpose: YBP was founded on 16 December 1983 by a number of economic journalists who covered the activities of the President in early 1970s. The establishment of the organization, which focuses on information and development studies, was based on the ideas and wishes to jointly materialize national development goals, namely a just and prosperous society based on the ideals of the proclamation of the country’s independence. The purposes of YBP, aside from filling in the country’s independence, are empower the economy of the people, including equal distribution of development opportunities and fruits, and promote and develop cooperation between members of the society.
Area and form of activities: YBP’s main fields of activity are agriculture, small enterprises, informal sector, urban development, animal husbandry, children, education, development studies, and development communication. Other fields handled by the organization include marine development and fishery, secretariat and finance, Indonesia Raya: cybernetic analyses. Meanwhile, activities in these fields take the forms of education and training, publication, seminar, study, research, survey, community development and facilitation, and credit provision.
Program: Since its inception, the foundation has carried out a number of programs, including people empowerment by increasing the income of villagers who raise freshwater catfish; the development of people in the informal sector in urban area through education and training on integrated farming management and so on.
Funding sources: International and domestic agencies have greatly contributed to the implementation of YBP’s programs. They include UNDP, Arthur Anderson, Forum BUMN and G11 Plus.
Membership and working area: The foundation is a member of the Consortium for Community Empowerment, the Network of Community Empowerment, and Community Development Forum. Aside from Jakarta, the organization operates in Sukabumi, Pati and Boyolali, Sumenep and Sikka (NTT).
Staff: 66 full-time and more than 100 part-time staff members, who include 14 professional and 10 administration workers operate YBP.
