Latar belakang dan tujuan: Embrio BINA SWADAYA adalah lembaga yang bernama Ikatan Petani Pancasila (IPP) yang memperjuangkan kondisi sosial ekonomi melalui pendekatan partisipasi aktif masyarakat. Pada 24 Mei 1967 lahir lembaga ini sebagai kelanjutan IPP dengan mengembangkan kelompok- kelompok swadaya masyarakat sebagai wadah peningkatan sosial ekonomi. Semangat yang melandasi berdirinya lembaga ini adalah keinginan untuk memperjuangkan nasib petani dan nelayan kecil yang hidupnya di bawah garis kemiskinan. Program: Secara garis besar, program yang dilakukan antara lain pengembangan-pengembangan kelompok swadaya masyarakat, pertanian lestari, penguatan usaha kecil, intensifikasi dan peningkatan produksi peternakan, peran serta wanita dalam peningkatan pendapatan, survai sosial ekonomi pada pengembangan perhutanan sosial, dan pelatihan pengembangan usaha kecil. Publikasi: Menerbitkan beberapa judul buku yang kesemuanya berkenaan dengan swadaya masyarakat, juga Buletin Bina Swadaya, Gema Desa Hutan, dan Bina Swadaya’s News Letter. Sumber dana: Selain dari hasil usaha mandiri, dana kegiatan lembaga ini berasal dari lembaga internasional seperti German Agro Action, Ford Foundation, CEBEMO, CODEL, Heifer Project International, PLAN International, USAID, FTPP-FAO Bangkok, Kedutaan Kanada, ODA, ILO-DANIDA, dan FAMD Jepang. Keanggotaan dan wilayah kerja: Lembaga ini masuk dalam jaringan ANGOC, FORMASI, INFID, PDF, YAPIKA, INDHRRA, ALTRABAKU, APRACA, dan BWTP. Wilayah kerjanya meliputi seluruh Indonesia. Staf: Lembaga ini dikelola oleh 79 staf tetap dan 16 staf tidak tetap, dengan 34 staf profesional dan 61 staf administrasi. | Background and purpose: The embryo of BINA SWADAYA was an organization called Ikatan Petani Pancasila (Pancasila Farmers Association or IPP) which struggled for a better social and economic condition by promoting people’s active participation. On 24 May 1967, BINA SWADAYA was founded as a continuation of IPP, and it developed self-reliant community groups as the basis for improving people’s social and economic life. The spirit, which served as the basis for the organization was the desire to struggle for the welfare of small farmers and fishermen who live below the poverty line. Program: Since its inception, BINA SWADAYA has carried out a number of programs like the development of self-reliant community groups, conservation farming, empowerment of small enterprises, intensification and the boosting of cattle production, women’s participation in the increasing of income, social and economic survey about social forest development, and training on small business development. Publication: BINA SWADAYA published several books on NGOs, two bulletins namely Bina Swadaya and Gema Desa Hutan, and Bina Swadaya News Letter. Funding sources: Aside from its own undertakings, the funds used by the organization to finance its activities come from international agencies like German Agro Action, Ford Foundation, CEBEMO, CODEL, Heifer Project International, PLAN International, USAID, FTPP_FAO Bangkok, Canadian Embassy, ODA, ILO-DASNIDA, and FAMD (Japan). Membership and working area: This organization is a member of INFID, PDF, YAPIKA, INDHRRA, ALTRABAKU, APRACA, and BWTP. Its working area covers the whole Indonesia territory.
